Interior Plaster Insanity Over!

July 24, 2012

Readers – You may think that our house was swallowed by the earth, but really we’ve just been alternating between insane busy (PLASTER) and then total rest. At any rate, we finished the interior plaster this weekend, thanks to the help and support of many family members.

Some photos!

Remember this?

Great room pre-plaster

Here is the same room post-plaster (and from a different angle):

The plaster made the house a lot more thermally stable. Sunday was in the 90s here, but the house only went up three degrees (66 to 69 degrees). It can only improve once we add another 1″ to the exterior. The plaster also made the house pretty humid, so we’ve been leaving windows open to let it air out.

Even though the curves were by far the most difficult, pain in the butt things to do in the house, the plaster really made them look amazing.

Hard to believe that the first coat only took us three days, and the finish coat took well over a month. By the end, we could do two rooms in about 6 hours, and I think that we were getting a relatively nice finish.

We are on schedule to get the drywall installed in about 2 – 3 weeks. We just need to install the tubs, and then the interior will be drywall ready. Then: onto the exterior plaster (ugh).

Amazing and very cool it two ways, temp and the way it all turned out. Sort of monolithic. much better when you aren’t looking at it from 5 inches away while trowelling I am sure!
