More Plaster + Plaster Prep

June 13, 2012

As faithful blog readers will remember, we initially set our electrical outlet boxes flush with the bale walls. This let us attach the boxes to pieces of plywood and staple them to the mesh, increasing their stability during the plastering process. The drawback to this method is that we had to plaster up to (but not into) the boxes and make a nice enough square to later add the actual outlets.

Mr. B had a brainstorm this weekend, just in time. Instead of free-handing the plastering around the boxes, we would install electrical box extenders  set at the finished depth of the plaster. The real genius idea though was to use “greenies” (wire nuts) to hold the rind stably at depth.

We unloaded the rest of plaster yesterday, just barely beating the rain. Thanks to everyone who helped out a second time around. Those bags looked heavy 🙂 At this point, the interior of the house is ready for plaster and we have the plaster. We just need a few more supplies (sand, mixer, air compressor, plaster tools), and our neighbor/plaster-guru to do the job! Here are some requisite plaster-unloading pictures:

Check out those guns!
