Plaster Prep

June 7, 2012

Readers – We got an exciting (and sort of terrifying) call yesterday – our plaster is arriving in Missoula over the next two days! We’re picking up 120 bags of interior plaster today, and the rest on Friday. The big issue for us is just going to be moving the plaster from the loading dock, to the property, and then onto the ground. The interior plaster is 50 pounds a bag, and there are 65 bags per pallet, for a grand total of 3250 pounds per pallet (we’re getting two today). We’ve lined up a friend with a trailer and a big pickup to help us get the plaster to the property. Mr. B is pretty sure that our tractor couldn’t lift a pallet with even half the plaster on it, so we’ve also lined up a friend and a brother (Mr. N and Mr. T, for those who follow the blog). Nothing motivates people to pick up heavy stuff like the promise off beer and food. We cleared off a spot next to the house, so we’re ready.

We’ve also been prepping the inside of the house for plastering. Besides the 2 x 4 screeds we put on the floor, we also cut strips of cement board to 1 1/4 inches to act as screeds for the ceiling, and we are putting plastic on the floor and windows. Our floor might be cracked, covered in bar chain oil, sawdust, spray paint, and mud, but it doesn’t need to be covered in plaster. Hopefully we’ll be able to leave the plastic down until the drywall and painting are finished.

Looks like we’re going to need a tent or a hotel room, no? Glad you are making progress, too bad Mr M won’t be there yet to help move the weight.

Aren’t you guys supposed to be on the road right now? You’re welcome to stay in the house, but it is in deep home construction zone right now, so a tent or hotel would be more comfortable. I’m sure we’ll get plenty of help from Mr. M in the future 🙂

We are finally on the road as of today, the ninth. Looks like we’ve got room in the back of the U-Haul for the air mattress. See you Monday evening!
