Weekend Update

March 5, 2012

Readers – Why was I so energetic and excitable this morning? So excitable, in fact, that I was air punching and laughing?

A) We had a super productive weekend.

B) It was 60 degrees and sunny yesterday.

C) After tomorrow (high of 33 and snowing), it is supposed to slowly warm back up to 60 by Friday.

D) All of the above.

The answer is D! I don’t know what it is about nice weather, but it sure puts me in a good mood. It surely doesn’t hurt that we (nearly) finished sewing the mesh this weekend. OK, we thought we were going to do it back in September. Whatever. It is (nearly) done now, and it only took us a day and a half to do it.

It is hard to see in above photo, so here is a close up:

To sew the mesh together, you loop baling twine from inside the house, through the bale, and then back into the house. The twin is tied off and attaches the inside mesh to the outside mesh. This strengthens the bale walls, and pulls the mesh tight against the bales. I was sure this job would take FOREVER since it had been on our list for so long, but it was relatively quick, although painful to the hands.

In other property news, here is a creek update. Until about 4 pm yesterday, our creek was empty and covered in old ice. Then it was full of water. It looks a lot like last spring when it was almost flooding the property.

The melting snow is forming little lakes on the property, including in our driveway. Mr. B felt especially strongly about this one and spent part of yesterday trying to drain it back into the creek. He was mostly successful (Tempe’s dog house was saved), but it is going to take a long time before it empties completely.

I am jealous that I didn’t get to sew straw bales! But very excited for you both. This really shows how much work the two of you have done and is a major step towards moving in. I hope the creek decided to play nice this year!

The totos are in the house (the guest room is all theirs). Mr. B desperately wants to install one, but I’m trying to get him to wait until the drywall is done.
